Hi, I’m Alison Cansler;
I am a Native South Carolina artist
and this is my studio. The kiln in I’ve been interested in jewelry in general as long as I can remember. I began doing beadwork at age 13, and first started lampworking (glassblowing) at 16. My sister and I self-taught lampworking to ourselves with a kit my mother bought my sister through a mail order catalog. We loved it and pursued a career in it and ended up opening a bead store in Concord, Massachusetts. My sister owned it first and then past it on to me in 1999. I owned the bead store for two years and then closed it to sell my lampwork beads at bead shows exclusively. A short time after that, I was in a bad car accident and broke my back. I have been in physical therapy, but have not been able to return to lampworking. I started Glass Fusing around six months ago because it’s not so hard on my back. I am so happy with how my skills have developed. I am completely self taught in fusing as well. I feel like I have a natural skill for working with glass. It seems to be one of the materials that just likes me. All of my glass pendants are one of a kind works of art. WORKS OF ART THAT YOU CAN WEAR. Much of my inspiration comes from my experience as a lampworker. Knowing what colors work well together, knowing how dichroic works, and from nature. Nature gives me a lot of inspiration. I love using semi-precious stone beads to make necklaces with my beads. I also love trying to get leaf shapes and tree shapes in my beads. If you have any questions about my work or want to place a custom order don’t hesitate to call or email me. I look forward to hearing from you if you’ve bought one of my pieces as well. I hope you enjoy my work and have a great day.
